"The Ashes Man" is adapted from the novel of the same name by Ladislav Fuks. It tells a chilling story. Karl is the manager of a crematorium, an anti-Semite who is obsessed with death. With the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia, he sees an opportunity to realize his ambitions, but just as he is about to make his move, he discovers that his wife is not of "pure" blood. This fact drives him into madness. He prepares to murder his wife and his equally "impure" son.
