Maoshan disciple Ao Tianlong (played by Lam Ching-Ying) and Da Huang (played by Cheng Cheung) both fall in love with their master's cherished apprentice, Mengmeng. Before the master passes away, he sets a test to see who is more sincere. Da Huang uses schemes to gain the master's trust. Although Mengmeng favors Tianlong, she is constrained by her father's wishes, leading Tianlong to leave in anger. Eighteen years have passed; Da Huang and Mengmeng's son, Lian Gao (played by Jin Shaolong), has grown into a handsome young man, while Tianlong's daughter, Ninghong (played by Gigi Lai), is also an adult. One day, Tianlong and his daughter return to their hometown to visit relatives and encounter the Red Robe Fire Demon causing havoc. Tianlong goes to great lengths to subdue it and traps it in a ghost cage. Upon returning home, both Tianlong and Da Huang still harbor resentment towards each other, mutually antagonistic. Lian Gao accidentally releases the Fire Demon, which has grown more powerful; neither Tianlong nor Da Huang can handle it alone. To confront the Fire Demon, the two finally set aside their differences and work together once more.
