Liz (Lily Collins) is a single mother living a tough life with her young daughter. By chance, Liz meets a man named Ted (Zac Efron), who claims to be a law student and shows a strong interest in her. As time goes by, Liz and Ted gradually become a couple, and Ted's kindness and understanding reignite Liz's hope for a better future. However, Liz soon discovers a side of Ted that he hides from everyone. In every state Ted visits, there are reports of missing girls and murders. Although Ted insists that he has no connection to any of this, he becomes the FBI's most wanted man. In court, Ted passionately defends himself, and his arguments leave Liz confused.
