Another body with an unidentifiable identity is discovered. The local police invite special agent Elena Scott (Angelina Jolie) to assist in the investigation, as there has been no progress in the case. Scott's unconventional approach to solving cases frustrates her colleague Picard, but with her keen intuition and extraordinary insight, Scott quickly starts to piece things together: the prime suspect, Martin Ash, has been living other people's lives for 20 years, assuming the identities of his victims after each crime to begin a new life. Constable (Ethan Hawke) is the witness to the latest murder, and as he collaborates with Scott, they develop feelings for each other. However, due to their professional roles, Scott maintains her distance. On the day the serial killings come to an end, the feelings they have buried begin to surface. Just the day after they become intimate, Scott witnesses James killing the suspect's mother in an elevator, realizing that she is falling into a trap... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by British author Michael Pye.
