Powell (played by Anthony Hopkins) is an anthropologist specializing in chimpanzees, who has been observing the activities of local chimps in Rwanda for a long time. However, two years ago, this mild-mannered scholar suddenly changed his temperament, killed two local forest rangers, and injured several others before mysteriously disappearing. Now, he has finally been arrested and is held in a high-security psychiatric prison in the United States. The young psychiatrist, Caltech (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.), intends to uncover the mystery of Powell's mental breakdown to make a name for himself, so he delves into the prison to have direct conversations with Powell.
