In Kolkata, filled with music and joyful crowds, a woman seven months pregnant stands alone in the dim light. Her name is Vidya (played by Vidya Balan), and she has come to this unfamiliar city all by herself, with only one goal—to find her long-missing husband. Everyone believes her husband is missing, and even she has no concrete evidence that he is still alive. However, deep down, Vidya does not accept the fact that her husband is gone, nor does she trust those handling the case of his disappearance. Armed with fragmented evidence, she decides to search for her husband on her own. As the investigation deepens, Vidya realizes that she seems to have become the one in the dark, and the truth is distant and cruel.
