In Italian horror cinema, it is difficult to find a more influential and inheritable work than that of Michele Soavi. His creations ensure that Italian horror films will still have a place in the next millennium. This film is a valuable addition to the genre of supernatural cinema and also marks a return to the Gothic style of Italian cinema. The film begins with a prologue set in the past, where a Knight Templar punishes villagers accused of witchcraft and builds a church over the mass grave of their bodies. The story then jumps to the present day, where a historian uncovers the church’s secret, and the souls of the victims begin to manipulate him, opposing the church and the world.
