The story takes place in the bustling city of London, where Peggy (Frances O'Connor) is a single mother living in poverty in a dilapidated old house, raising three children: Janet (Madison Wolfe), Margaret (Lauren Esposito), and Johnny (Patrick McAuley) on her own. Recently, some supernatural occurrences in the house have plunged the family into fear and despair, and worse, the youngest child Janet seems to have become the target of a demonic possession. The church's exorcists, Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson), intervene in the situation. Although they sympathize deeply with the family, their primary goal is to determine the veracity of the supernatural events. However, aside from some testimonies from those involved, there is no concrete evidence proving that supernatural occurrences have actually taken place, and in helplessness, the two are forced to leave.
