A beautiful 13-year-old girl, Mia (Ella Purnell), accidentally discovers a small box in a tree hole in her backyard, containing a strange and terrifying story. The story tells of a faceless demon who seeks recognition from others, wandering around looking for children standing by the window to take them away and tear off their faces to wear them as its own. Mia becomes obsessed with this unfinished story and tries to continue it. Little does she know, it was written by her father, John Ferrow (Clive Owen), a construction worker, based on his own childhood experiences. As this unfolds, eerie dreams begin to haunt Mia. In the meantime, an accidental incident rekindles the fears buried deep within John, who recalls the faceless demon of his childhood, and both father and daughter find themselves tormented by the demon...
