Young boy Maki (voiced by Max Renaudin) and his family are kidnapped by hunters, who plan to sell them as slaves in France. While the hunters are asleep, Maki secretly manages to escape from his handcuffs and begins his flight. Along the way, he encounters a giraffe named "Zarafa" (voiced by Déborah François), but unfortunately, the hunters follow their footprints and kill Zarafa’s mother. Maki promises Zarafa's mother that he will take care of him. In a crisis, the desert prince Hassan (voiced by Simon Abkarian) steps forward, driving the hunters away, and he takes Zarafa back to his kingdom, with Maki following through on his promise. Upon returning to the kingdom, Hassan is ordered to take Zarafa to France as a gift for the French king, requesting military assistance for their cause. They set off from the port in a hot air balloon, traveling through the Alps and Marseille to Paris, facing many hardships along the way. Will Maki be able to take Zarafa back to Africa, and will the French king send troops to help them? … This film is based on real events from the 19th century, where "Zarafa" was an African giraffe gifted to the French king by the Pasha of Egypt, becoming a "big star" in Europe.
