The story takes place in the bustling metropolis of New York City, where Leo (played by Mark Wahlberg) has finally finished his time in prison and is released back into society. He no longer wishes to clear himself of the wrongful accusations he endured; he just wants to cherish the little time he has left and be an ordinary person. Leo finds work at the car dealership run by his uncle Frank (played by James Caan), a family business that has been passed down through generations, allowing Leo to let down his guard and be his true self. Reuniting with friends Willy (played by Joaquin Phoenix) and Erica (played by Charlize Theron) makes Leo feel like he is getting closer to his ideal life. However, things take an unexpected turn when a secret Leo unintentionally discovers puts him in the crosshairs once again, and this time, the enemies he must face are his own family.
