The North Korean Rikudōsan (played by Seol Gyeong-gu), originally named Kim Sin-lok, was exceptionally strong from a young age. He was recommended by a talent scout to travel across the ocean to Japan to learn sumo wrestling. After undergoing rigorous training, he eventually ranked third in Japan, but due to his identity as a North Korean, his abilities could not be further recognized. Disappointed, Rikudōsan spent his days drinking and fighting, until he met a wrestler from the United States during one of his brawls. Rikudōsan then decided to switch from sumo to wrestling and went to America to train. A year later, Rikudōsan returned, bringing this still novel sport back to Japan. He defeated American wrestlers in the ring, which excited the downcast Japanese people after the war, making him a national hero overnight. However, his legend came to an unexpectedly swift end…
