In 1984, a controversial film titled "Silent Night, Deadly Night" caused quite a stir in the American Christmas season. The movie depicted Santa Claus as a murderous maniac, brutally killing on a blissful Christmas night, which shattered the ideal image of Santa Claus as a messenger of wishes in the eyes of children. This infuriated parents, leading them to collectively protest and boycott the film, ultimately sparking an anti-horror film movement across American society. Such reactions could perhaps be attributed to a series of events in the U.S. during the 60s and 70s, such as the Vietnam War loss, presidential assassinations, and domestic economic decline, which left Americans feeling fragile, unable to endure a horror movie with Santa Claus as the target. This year, a remade horror film titled "Silent Night" from the original "Silent Night, Deadly Night" is coming out. In today's culturally diverse America, such a film is likely to no longer touch their sensitive spots. The film "Silent Night" continues the original story of "Silent Night, Deadly Night," focusing on a Christmas parade in a small town in Wisconsin. Among the many Santas in the town, there is a serial killer disguised as Santa, going on a killing spree. The town's police are in pursuit of him... The screenplay is written by Jason Rothwell (of "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "The Legend of Alice") and directed by up-and-coming horror film director Steven C. Miller (of "Automatic" and "The Aggression Scale"). Veteran actor Malcolm McDowell (of "Caligula" and "A Clockwork Orange") stars alongside young actors Jaime King and Brendan Fehr. In this film, McDowell does not play his typical villain but transforms into the town hero, Sheriff Cooper. "Silent Night" will be released in North America on November 30, followed by the release of Blu-ray and DVD the following week.
