After his wife Xiaolan (Yu Qixia) becomes pregnant, Zhang Jingqiang (Qin Xianglin) finds that the hours he can work at each job are very limited. Considering his low education and few skills, he doesn't pay much attention to it; he only works harder to find a new job after being unemployed again, but unfortunately, luck is not on his side. While they are worried about Xiaolan's increasingly large belly, an unexpected newspaper leads Zhang Jingqiang to a building where he becomes a security guard. His colleagues are Uncle Han (Zhan Sen), Fatty (Zheng Zeshi), Mr. Hong Kong (Wang Qing), and Xiao Ding (Xu Bingsen). At the start of his job, while listening to Uncle Han explain the work, he notices something strange about the elevator, but Uncle Han just tells him to be bold and not to be superstitious. Soon, while patrolling at night with Fatty, Uncle Han informs them that Xiaolan has sent an urgent message. Unable to wait to use the restroom, Fatty goes down alone in the elevator, which unexpectedly malfunctions and takes him to the basement, revealing a terrifying scene. After recovering from the shock, he tells his colleagues about what he saw, but no one believes him, as Fatty comes down unscathed, and Uncle Han did not inform him to go downstairs. Shortly after, a group gathers in the monitoring room for a late-night snack. When discussing the earlier incident, Mr. Hong Kong says that no situation can scare him. Just as he finishes speaking, there is an electrical anomaly, and Mr. Hong Kong is choked by a dog bone, later dying in the hospital. On the day of Mr. Hong Kong's funeral, a priest and feng shui master (Yue Hua) is shocked when he sees Zhang Jingqiang. Upon seeing Uncle Han again, he realizes something is wrong, but he remains silent. Not long after, Uncle Han dies in his own home. At Uncle Han's funeral, Zhang Jingqiang tells Fatty that the building they work in is a gathering place for vengeful spirits and presents an old newspaper as evidence. The priest then performs a ceremony and, while conversing with them, asks for Zhang Jingqiang's birth date. He discovers that Zhang is the most likely person to be possessed by a ghost, yet he hasn't been possessed. Fatty takes Xiaolan to the hospital for a check-up, and a large dog barks incessantly; the doctor senses something unusual during the examination; Xiaolan’s increasingly strange behavior… More and more signs indicate that what Xiaolan is carrying is a ghostly fetus.
