In the mining town of Prosperity in Arizona, a truck transporting chemical materials has an accident, dumping toxic waste into the local river. Thousands of spiders raised by a spider farmer become contaminated, growing to massive sizes and swarming into abandoned mines to breed. The town sheriff, Sam Parker (played by Kari Wührer), has a son named Mike (played by Scott Terra) who discovers giant spider legs and suspects that the spider farmer has been killed, but his mother, Sam, refuses to listen to his explanation. Chris McCormack (played by David Arquette), the son of the town's mine owner, returns at a town meeting to oppose the mayor's proposal to sell the mine. Chris is still harboring feelings for Sam but lacks the courage to express his feelings to her. Mike shows Chris the giant spider leg, but Chris remains skeptical. Meanwhile, the huge spiders in the mine begin to attack animals in the town, followed by humans. The communication systems are also sabotaged by the "Eight-Legged Freaks," putting the lives of everyone in the town in jeopardy...
