This is a haunting and eerie vampire legend, as well as a tragically beautiful love story. In the year 1462, the Turks invaded Constantinople, threatening all of Christianity. Romanian General Count Dracula (played by Gary Oldman) was summoned to action, but just as he claimed victory, rumors spread within the city that he had died in battle. His wife Elizabeth (played by Winona Ryder) was heartbroken and committed suicide by drowning, leaving Dracula to return home only to find her lifeless body. This caused him to take his anger out on God, transforming him into an evil being that feeds on blood to sustain his life, becoming an undead vampire. Four hundred years later, the story shifts to London in 1897, where young lawyer Jonathan Harker (played by Keanu Reeves) is sent to the Transylvanian castle of the Dracula family to handle the estate arrangements of this noble descendant in London. This means he must part from his fiancée—the beautiful Mina (played by Winona Ryder). The owner of Dracula's castle is the very vampire Count Dracula, who discovers that Mina bears a striking resemblance to Elizabeth and believes Mina is the reincarnation of his lost love. He decides to find Mina and reclaim the true love he lost four hundred years ago. He confines Jonathan within the castle, bringing boxes of soil from his homeland: the source of his power, and arrives in London, conjuring dark forces along the way. His arrival resurrects the dark powers of London, plunging it into a mysterious terror. Mina, meanwhile, feels a mysterious inner call, a mix of fear and a strong longing...
