Adapted from the novel of the same name by author Seichi Morimura, published in 1976. The film version starring the late actor Yusaku Matsuda and actress Mari Sato was a big hit the following year. In 2004, it was also adapted into a TV series by Yutaka Takenouchi and Yui Natsukawa, but set in modern times. This special remake will maintain the original setting of the 1970s, with the story taking place in Tokyo in 1974. It narrates the incident in a hotel elevator during a party hosted by renowned beautician (the original and film version features a fashion designer) Kyouko Asugi (Kyouka Suzuki), where a young black man is killed by a short knife. Just before dying, he leaves behind the cryptic phrase "Sutohar." Inspector Hirokazu Tōki (Tatsuya Fujiwara) and his team launch an investigation into the case.
