A tragic train collision claimed the lives of 131 passengers, and miraculous David Dunn (played by Bruce Willis) emerges as the sole survivor of this disaster, completely unscathed. After attending a memorial for the victims, he discovers a mysterious note on his car window that reads, "How many times have you been sick in your life?" Soon, a man named Elijah Price (played by Samuel L. Jackson) appears before David. Unlike David, Elijah is born with brittle bones and is frail. A comic book enthusiast, Elijah believes David is the superhero with supernatural abilities from the stories. Naïve David begins to recognize his own powers under Elijah's guidance...
