Paulina (played by Sigourney Weaver) was once assaulted by a man, and blindfolded, she never knew who the perpetrator was, leading to her becoming increasingly paranoid. When her husband Gerardo (played by Stuart Wilson) returns home after being elected chairman of the committee, he finds Paulina exhibiting even more bizarre behavior than usual. She even pushes the car of their visiting neighbor Miranda (played by Ben Kingsley) off a cliff, believing that with the tape "Death and the Maiden" found in Miranda's car, along with Miranda's scent and breath, she is convinced that Miranda is the villain who assaulted her. She frantically ties Miranda up in a room to put this criminal on trial with her husband. However, Miranda clearly has a solid alibi, making it difficult for Gerardo to believe Paulina's claims. Whether all of this is Paulina's delusion or if there is truth to it, this trial will bring the truth to light.
