As a result, Elsa has her husband, lawyer Arthur Bannister (played by Everett Sloane), find Michael and invite him to work as a sailor on their ship. The Bannister family has just returned from Shanghai and is about to sail to San Francisco. During their voyage, Michael and Elsa develop feelings for each other. Michael also meets Arthur's friend George Grisby (played by Glenn Anders). Upon learning that Michael has killed before, George persuades him to kill someone else, promising him a $5,000 commission, and that person is actually George himself. George plans to create the illusion that he has died and escape from his current life and wife. Their plan seems flawless, but George accidentally kills Arthur's butler, and then George is truly killed as well. Michael is considered the murderer of both victims, and in court, it is his rival Arthur defending him. Who is the real killer of George?
