In the second installment, Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) fails to destroy the "Matrix" from within. His body lies in a coma on a ship in the real world, while his mind is trapped in the limbo between the "Matrix" and the real world, a place controlled by the "Trainman." Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne) and Trinity (played by Carrie-Anne Moss) learn of Neo's situation and, guided by their guardian angel, find the Trainman's controller, Merovingian. After a fierce battle, they rescue Neo. At this time, the electronic squid army launches a fierce attack on Zion, and humanity organizes all its mech warriors to put up a strong resistance, facing a dire situation. Neo and Trinity pilot a ship, overcoming numerous difficulties to reach the Machine City, where Neo finally meets the ruler of the machine world, the "Machine Emperor." The two sides negotiate and reach an agreement: Neo will eliminate Smith, who is not controlled by the "Matrix," in exchange for peace for Zion. In the "Matrix," Neo and Smith engage in a final duel that will determine the fate of humanity.
