Casso (played by Johnny Depp) is obsessed with collecting bizarre and rare books. This talent catches the eye of billionaire Balkan (played by Frank Langella), who assigns Casso a daunting task: to find an ancient book called The Ninth Gate and authenticate the one he possesses. Only three copies of this book exist in the world, with the other two scattered in Portugal and France. According to legend, reading this book grants the power to summon the devil. Casso embarks on a twisted and magical journey to find it. He visits the book's original owner's wife, a rare book restorer, and encounters a mysterious woman with green eyes. During this time, the sudden death of his friend eerily resembles an illustration from the book, as murder cases continue to unfold. It turns out that the spells contained within the book may leave its owner with no escape. Moreover, if the three books come together, it would welcome the evil Satan. But did the devil ultimately show his face?
