A meteorite crashes in the desert of Arizona, and within the cave formed by the impact, a strange world isolated from the outside is rapidly taking shape. From single-celled to multi-celled, from avian-like creatures to primates, alien lifeforms are evolving at an unimaginable speed and starting to impact human survival. College professor Ille (played by David Duchovny) and his colleague and friend Harry (played by Orlando Jones) are the first to discover traces of alien life brought by the meteorite and realize the dangers behind its rapid evolution. With the help of Allison (played by Julianne Moore), a female officer from the military's disease control center, they secretly collect data to find a way to contain the invasion of alien lifeforms...
