The story takes place in Britain in 1870, where rumors of sea monsters have led to public panic. Governments have dispatched warships to patrol the seas, but all these ships have been sunk by the sea creatures. Professor Aronnax (played by Dan Hanlon) and his assistant Conseil become the survivors of a maritime disaster, along with the harpooner Ned (played by Curtis Benton). They are rescued by the Nautilus submarine, and they meet its captain, Nemo. Captain Nemo, having long admired Aronnax's reputation, welcomes him as an esteemed guest. However, the captain's volatile personality and radical methods make Aronnax realize that it is not safe to stay there for long. Captain Nemo showcases his research accomplishments accumulated over the years and takes Aronnax on a tour of the mysterious underwater world, but all Aronnax can think about is escaping.
