Holly (played by Julia Goldani Telles) and her friends attend a sleepover at their good friend Katie's (played by Annalise Basso) house. During their chat, they learn that some boys in their class are secretly planning to summon the Slender Man. The Slender Man is a terrifying figure from folklore, said to have long limbs and an indistinct face, who lures and abducts children. The daring and curious girls are undeterred and decide to attempt the summoning by finding a video online. That night passes without incident, but a week later during a school outing, Katie mysteriously disappears. In the aftermath, Holly senses that Katie's disappearance is related to the summoning ritual they performed when she hears her father crying out. They enter Katie's room and, while checking her computer history, discover that she had watched many videos about the Slender Man before her disappearance. Perhaps the legendary monster really does exist...
