The "Biederman Comet" is hurtling towards Earth, delivering a lethal blow to humanity. Authorities take urgent action and devise an optimal plan — astronaut Tanner (played by Robert Duvall) will pilot the spaceship "Messiah" to the comet, placing a pre-prepared nuclear bomb on it to detonate, aiming to either shatter it into fragments or change its trajectory. Tanner bravely completes the mission, but discovers it does not achieve the desired effect. The comet breaks into two pieces, one large and one small, moving closer to Earth. Authorities quickly implement a final plan, the "Noah's Ark" project, to preserve some Earth species, including humanity. This is a secret underground shelter where only a few can escape the impending disaster, to rebuild the world once it has passed. The smaller piece of the comet has already struck Earth, causing landslides and a catastrophic scene. The devastation that the larger comet will bring to Earth will far exceed what people can imagine, and humanity is now in a countdown to catastrophe.
