In reverse chronology, scientist Andre (played by David Hedison) receives a call from his beautiful wife Helene (played by Patricia Owens), seeking help from Andre's brother François (played by Vincent Price). She confesses to François and the detective that she has just murdered her husband, Andre. Before the incident, Andre was obsessed with developing his time and space machine, which could disassemble a human body and transmit it to another location for reassembly. Little did he know that while he was engrossed in his experiment, an ugly fly invaded the machine... This low-budget sci-fi film "The Fly," released by 20th Century Fox in 1958, is regarded as the classic origin of the "fly man" genre. Following its success, 20th Century Fox released "Return of the Fly" in 1959 and "Curse of the Fly" in 1965. This led to an uncontrollable "fly craze," influencing similar films in the 1980s: the 1986 remake "The Fly" placed greater emphasis on horrific visuals and won the Oscar for Best Makeup, while "Fly II" was released in 1989 to continue the "fly craze."
