On an unnamed planet in the vast universe, two species of vastly differing sizes coexist. The dominant species is the Dages, who are gigantic and possess a high level of civilization and intelligence, allowing their spirits to wander freely beyond their physical bodies. In contrast, the Omus resemble humans in appearance and size, their society is primitive and underdeveloped, making them akin to ants in the presence of the Dages, who readily accept them as slaves and playthings. The Omus have a tenacious vitality and reproductive ability, their numbers increasing daily, causing distress among the rulers. Consequently, a campaign to exterminate the Omus is launched. This was initially a trivial operation, akin to exterminating pests, but an inconspicuous Omus changed the dynamics for both parties. Thale is an Omus male pet owned by a Dages girl, who learns advanced scientific and cultural knowledge from the teaching machines of his owner. By chance, Thale escapes from the Dages household and becomes the leader of the Omus resistance against the rulers... This film won the Special Prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival.
