This film is based on a true story. Bobby (Ryan Kelley) is a kind and devout young man with a loving family. However, everything changes when he confesses his sexual orientation to his family. His mother Mary (Sigourney Weaver) believes in the teachings that homosexuality is a sin and tries every means to correct her son. Bobby's suffering increases day by day. Before he turns 20, Bobby meets a cheerful young man named David, but Mary refuses to accept it and is ashamed to have a homosexual son. Heartbroken, Bobby leaves home and ultimately chooses death to end his internal torment. His death completely awakens his family, especially Mary, who begins to engage with the LGBTQ+ community, join a PFLAG group, and discuss biblical interpretations with clergy in her endless regret. After reading her son's diary, she begins to confront her acceptance of him. The grieving mother cries out in a heavy rain, as rain and tears wash away her stubbornness, prejudice, and misunderstanding. From that point on, Mary dedicates her life to LGBTQ+ advocacy, helping young people like Bobby.
