Max Brogan (Harrison Ford) works for the Los Angeles Immigration and Customs Enforcement. During a raid on a clothing factory, he captures a young Mexican undocumented woman named Maria (Alice Braga), who asks him to help take care of her son. Claire (Alice Eve), an Australian girl visiting the U.S. on a tourist visa, becomes a short-term mistress to Cole Frankel (Ray Liotta), an officer at the Los Angeles immigration office, in hopes of quickly obtaining a green card to achieve her Hollywood dream, which makes her boyfriend Gavin (Jim Sturgess) very angry. Cole's wife, Denise (Ashley Judd), is dealing with a suspected terrorist deportation case, involving a 15-year-old Muslim girl named Tasleema (Summer Bishil), who was arrested for sympathizing with the 9/11 hijackers. Meanwhile, Max's friend, police officer Hamid (Cliff Curtis), is caught in a family crisis and faces a choice about whether to give a new chance to a Korean immigrant during a convenience store robbery...
