The Free State of South Africa is the stronghold of the white minority in South Africa. In this conservative rural area, power and male privilege are still two revered terms among the locals. Janno is a reclusive and introverted little boy. His mother is a devout Christian. One day, she brings home Pieter, a homeless orphan, and asks Janno to accept him like a brother. The two boys then engage in a struggle for rights, inheritance, and the love of their parents.
