Struggling shoe designer Kelly (played by Jennifer Grey) lives a tight life, facing both career setbacks and the irritation of her three roommates. One day, Kelly helps a downtrodden woman, who unexpectedly transforms into a magical witch. She uses her magic to give Kelly's designed high heels extraordinary powers; when Kelly wears them, she becomes a stunningly beautiful woman. One day, Kelly attends a party hosted by designer Salvatore (played by Rob Lowe) wearing these magic shoes, and her dazzling appearance immediately catches Salvatore's eye. Kelly adopts the alias Prudence and becomes Salvatore's assistant, who is increasingly enchanted by Prudence's charm. As time passes, Kelly realizes that everything beautiful has changed; she doesn't know whether Salvatore likes her ordinary self or the glamorous Prudence, and the magic of the shoes begins to leave her feeling lost.
