Lin Yujing's sister goes missing before her wedding, and her father reluctantly marries Lin Yujing off to the bandit leader Guan Liwei. Over time, Yujing and Guan Liwei develop feelings for each other. Yujing's father works for the CCP, and when the Japanese army invades, Guan Liwei claims he wants to defect to the Japanese. The father then asks Yujing to convince Guan Liwei to cooperate with the CCP. When Yujing learns that Guan Liwei plans to join the Japanese, she attempts to shoot him for the greater good of the nation but fails.
