A "golden" duo from the Miami Police Department, the devoted family man Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and the stylish playboy and rich kid Mike Lowrey (Will Smith), are assigned to investigate the theft of drug evidence worth over a hundred million dollars. If they fail to complete the mission on time, they will have to pack up and leave. While they are exhausted from running around, the only sexy female witness in the case calls the police station, claiming she is willing to identify the mastermind, but only if Mike comes to protect her; otherwise, she won’t talk. At this moment, Mike happens to be away from the station, and Marcus, in a desperate bid to gain information, impersonates him. To keep the female witness's trust, they must continue with this identity swap. Marcus protects the female witness amidst gunfire and car chases, while Mike stays at home with his wife.
