At the beginning of time, monstrous creatures roamed the world. The great deity Biao Yuntai leveraged the divine flute to seal these creatures, but due to the negligence of three gatekeeper deities, the monsters escaped. From then on, monsters and deities attached themselves to human bodies, leading to an endless confrontation. Time passed, and during the Joseon Dynasty, there was a skilled and frivolous Taoist named Tian Yuzhi (played by Kang Dong-won), who amused himself by using illusionary arts to play tricks on the king and developed feelings for a beautiful young widow (played by Lim Soo-jung). To reach the highest realm of his Taoist skills and transform his dog sidekick Xiao Yi (played by Yoo Ha-jin) into a human, Tian Yuzhi desperately sought the divine flute and a bronze sword. Unexpectedly, he clashed with a painter (played by Kim Yoon-seok) who shared the same goal, ultimately leading to his mentor being harmed by the painter, and both he and Xiao Yi being sealed in a painting by the three gatekeeper deities... Five hundred years later, the monstrous creatures reappear in the world. The three gatekeeper deities, unaware of the painter's whereabouts, have no choice but to release Tian Yuzhi to subdue the monsters. The once-great Taoist sees the light of day again, but is that fated love still waiting for him? How will he resolve the enmity with the painter?
