He Zhiping (played by Jin Shi), a staff member at the Alishan Weather Station, is usually focused on his research work, neglecting his wife Junli (played by Mu Hong). The lonely Junli suffers from severe emotional instability and often relies on alcohol to numb herself. Zhiping's brother Zhixiong (played by Ou Wei) is inapt and arranges for the gangster Gao Dahu (played by Tang Jing) to hide at the weather station to evade the police. On the run, Dahu encounters the runaway girl Xiaosan (played by Luo Wanlin), and the two disguise themselves as father and daughter to head to Alishan. Dahu meets the innocent young girl Ahong (played by Tang Baoyun) on the mountain, and her innocence makes Dahu feel guilty, prompting him to want to take Xiaosan away. Meanwhile, Junli, in a state of confusion, bursts into Dahu's room on a stormy night, wanting to escape with him. Unfortunately, the rainstorm is too severe, and with the police on guard, the three must turn back to the weather station, leading to Xiaosan contracting pneumonia.
