The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity has already died, ruled by mutated cold-blooded creatures. The remaining humans are forced to migrate to underground bunkers for survival, living in constant fear. Seven years ago, during the great disaster, Joey (Dylan O'Brien) got separated from his girlfriend Amy (Jessica Henwick), and now they are in two different bunkers, communicating via radio. One day, missing Amy terribly, Joey decides to step out of the safe zone and return to the surface world, embarking on a solo journey to the camp where Amy is located. Along the way, he encounters countless dangers, as well as a mentor and friend Clyde (Michael Rooker) and Minho (Ariana Greenblatt). Will the timid and cowardly Joey be able to see Amy alive?
