During World War II from 1944 to 1945, a group of Algerian Muslim youths were called up to join the French army to participate in the counter-offensive against Germany. Abdaïcard (played by Roschdy Zem) was promoted to the rank of lance corporal after passing the military theory exam and was ordered by his superiors to lead his fellow townsmen into the tough squad of Sergeant Martinez (played by Bernard Blancan). During their first training, the short recruit Saïd (played by Jamel Debbouze) nearly caused a disaster while facing the sergeant's grenade throwing assessment, but fortunately, the sergeant acted swiftly and saved the recruits from trouble. In battle, these new soldiers displayed great courage, especially the lance corporal, who caught the sergeant's special attention. At lunch, due to discrimination against African soldiers, food distribution was extremely unfair. To advocate for the rights of soldiers of various ethnicities, the lance corporal dared to confront the sergeant, leading to potential personal grudges between them. What will become of the fate of the African soldiers?
