Yue Er (Zhang Baizhi) is a strong woman in the Song Dynasty, skilled in martial arts, righteous, and in pursuit of devoted love and marriage. One day, she encounters the talented Chen Jichang (Louis Koo) at a poetry event, and they develop feelings for each other. By coincidence, the Emperor arranges their marriage, fulfilling their beautiful bond. However, the real test of their relationship is just beginning—Yue Er is very strict with Jichang in an effort to keep him under control. Unfortunately, this backfires, and Jichang frequently seeks pleasure with his flirtatious friend Su Shi (Xu Shaoxiong). Yue Er, feeling helpless, cleverly tests him and eventually learns that he still loves her deeply. However, upon returning from an outing, Yue Er discovers that Jichang’s old illness has relapsed and he has become involved with the princess (Fan Bingbing). Enraged and sorrowful, Yue Er drinks the water of forgetfulness.
