In 1939 London, this is a tragic day for Pettigrew (played by Frances McDormand), at least it starts that way. As the daughter of a pastor, she adheres to strict and rigid self-discipline, imposing these constraints and teachings on the children she looks after. Indeed, Pettigrew is a governess in London, but her harsh methods have left the parents very dissatisfied, and she has been fired three times within a month. This time, Ms. Holt from the tutoring center also casts her out. In her drab gray attire and in dire straits, she cleverly picks up the professional recommendation letter meant for Ms. Delysia Lafosse (played by Amy Adams) and approaches her. Delysia is a rising star in both singing and acting, and to seize her opportunities, she juggles three men, only one of whom she truly loves. In the following 24 hours, Pettigrew will help Delysia navigate various dangerous yet comedic crises, ultimately realizing what true happiness is, while Pettigrew also finds her own love.
