Betty (Renée Zellweger) is an ordinary waitress with a annoying husband, Dale (Aaron Eckhart). Unhappy with her life, she immerses herself in the soap operas on TV, where the perfect Dr. David Ravell (Greg Kinnear) always awaits her arrival with his charming smile. In a dangerous drug deal, Dale is killed, and upon hearing the news, Betty instantly realizes that her new life begins.
