Mickey (Billy Crystal) is a tough basketball referee who deeply loves his job. An accident introduces Mickey to a beautiful foreign woman named Ellen (Debra Winger), and soon, Mickey finds himself unable to forget Ellen's face. When he travels a long distance back to France to find her, he discovers that Ellen is already married. Mickey, feeling lost, returns to the United States and falls into a low emotional state.
