The story begins in the Ming Dynasty, where Feng San (Yuan Hua) is cruel and wicked, committing all sorts of evil as a member of the Jinyiwei. His disciple, Fang Shouzheng (Yuan Biao), vows to bring him to justice. However, Feng San is cunning and even plans to steal the black jade Buddha, which has the power to alter time and space, to escape his fate. After several battles, both men fall off a cliff. Time passes, and in modern times, an archaeological team uncovers the ice-encased bodies of Feng San and Fang Shouzheng in the snow and transports them to the United States for research. However, an accident during their journey revives both men. By chance, Fang Shouzheng encounters a rebellious girl named A Yu (Maggie Cheung) and inadvertently becomes her bodyguard, while Feng San, unchanged in his wicked nature, joins the underworld and continues his evil ways. After discovering that Feng San is still committing crimes, Fang Shouzheng decides to continue his unfinished mission.
