The lifeguard Junwu (played by Tadanobu Asano) took in the homeless Xiaohua, and the two formed a family without blood relation. Years have flown by, and Xiaohua has grown into a graceful young woman, while Junwu has found a girlfriend (played by Aoi Kawai). However, the latter discovers that an odd and eerie bond has grown uncontrollably between Junwu and Xiaohua. Xiaohua is willful yet exudes a sweet girlhood charm, while Junwu sinks into profound and prolonged loneliness. Ultimately, what should have been a simple familial relationship crosses moral boundaries, and they both drown in the icy sea of desire. Xiaohua and Junwu, like symbiotic creatures, survive greedily in the dark by instinct until one day, their secret is uncovered by a third party.
