In Mumbai, India, after seven years of marriage without children, car salesman Varun Batra and news reporter Deepti decide to undergo artificial insemination at a hospital. After a successful implantation, the hospital informs them that the sperm has been mixed up with another couple also named Batra. Varun is very upset and initially wants Deepti to have an abortion. The other Batra couple, concerned about the abortion, quickly moves into the apartment upstairs. The two couples experience initial conflicts but later find a way to live harmoniously together.
