Wesley (played by Tyler Perry) is a universally good person and a successful individual. Whether in life, work, or relationships, he manages everything in an orderly fashion. No matter the request made by anyone, Wesley, out of goodwill, always agrees to help, and his responses tend to satisfy everyone. However, despite this, Wesley always feels a lack of authenticity in his life; he believes he is not a flesh-and-blood person, but merely a puppet being manipulated. One day, Wesley encounters a cleaner named Lindsay (played by Thandie Newton) in the stairwell. Lindsay is a single mother whose husband left her not long ago, leaving her with a mischievous child. All that remains for Lindsay is this tiring and humble job of cleaning the building. Lindsay's appearance completely disrupts Wesley's life, causing it to spiral out of control.
