Sabine (Béatrice Romand) has dated several men, but unfortunately, they were all married, which displeased her greatly. One day, Sabine suddenly tells her friend Clarisse (Arielle Dombasle) that she has decided to get married, even though she doesn't even have a boyfriend! Through Clarisse's introduction, Sabine meets a man named Edmond (André Dussollier), a young and successful lawyer, and Sabine believes Edmond is the perfect husband she has envisioned for her future. Sabine and Edmond begin to interact, and she desperately wants to win his favor, yet she is unwilling to take the initiative. Edmond maintains a passive stance towards Sabine's affection, neither rejecting nor pursuing her, until he starts using various excuses to avoid speaking and meeting with Sabine. It is at this point that Sabine realizes how naive her unreciprocated efforts truly are.
