One day, Sizhen's brother Chen Sirui (played by Han Fei) visits Shanghai from Taiwan and encounters Tang Zhiqin (played by Wang Yi), Tang Zhiyuan's sister. They fall in love at first sight. However, Chen's father (played by Shi Wei) strongly opposes the marriage because he refuses to support Zhiyuan in establishing his company. Sizhen is forced to falsely claim that the Tang family possesses gold bars and cash, which leads Chen's father to agree to fund Zhiyuan's company. Unfortunately, as Zhiyuan becomes wealthy, he has an affair with a concubine (played by Shangguan Yunzhu). To protect her husband's reputation, Sizhen endures the situation. Soon, Zhiyuan goes bankrupt, and the lies are exposed, causing conflicts between the two families. Eventually, Sizhen decides to divorce Zhiyuan but encounters the secretly married pair Sirui and Zhiqin at the law firm. Faced with this deeply loving couple, Sizhen must decide her future. The black-and-white film "Long Live Mrs. Tai," directed by renowned Chinese director Sang Hu in 1947, is a classic adaptation of a work by novelist Zhang Ailing. Sang Hu's subtle and delicate filmmaking style beautifully complements Zhang Ailing's play.
