The story takes place in Vienna, Austria, where Chutok (played by Adolphe Menjou) is married to the young and beautiful wife, Michi (played by Marie Prevost). However, his married life is not happy because Michi is a promiscuous woman who quickly falls for someone else after their marriage. Michi is infatuated with her friend Charlotte's (played by Florence Vidor) husband, Franz (played by Monte Blue), and tries to seduce him. Chutok sees this as a perfect opportunity to file for divorce, so he hires a private detective (played by Harry Myers) to gather evidence of Michi's infidelity. Charlotte is well aware of Michi's ulterior motives, so she is cautious around her, and due to Michi's interference, the relationship between her and Franz begins to suffer cracks. Finally, after a heated argument, Franz chooses to leave the home.
