The master carpenter Luban left behind a secret book titled "The Missing Door." According to the instructions in the book, one can create wooden crafts with astonishing effects; however, this book has a side effect: whoever possesses it can never be perfect, and unforeseen calamities are always waiting. Several years ago, the “heir of Luban,” Jiangnan He, took this secret book out of the palace and created a joyful rocking chair that made people youthful again. This attracted the malicious intent of the female owner of Qiangui and her sidekick Xiao Liu, who killed Jiangnan He and seized "The Missing Door." Prince Zhu Xiaotian (played by Li Weilian) of the Ming Dynasty is determined to become a top-notch carpenter like Luban. Disguised, he leaves the palace in search of "The Missing Door" and meets Jiangnan He’s junior apprentice Tang Xiaodie (played by Huang Yi). Upon discovering that Jiangnan He has been murdered by the female owner, they trace her to Longmen Town—where a lively ball tossing night is being prepared. The prestigious Nangong family in Longmen Town is seeking a son-in-law, and the chaotic female owner and Xiao Liu become performers in the capital. Meanwhile, Zhu Xiaotian is invited to the ball. Various characters come together to stage this colorful farce. In pursuit of "The Missing Door," everyone is putting in their utmost effort; however, when they finally obtain it, they realize that what they most desire is exactly what they can never attain.
